Nadando contra a corrente, a catraia constitui-se num dos mais antigos meios de transporte entre a capital, Vitória, e a cidade vizinha, Vila Velha. Em plena ‘cultura do automóvel’, surpreende que existam pessoas que preferem “o remo à roda”. Símbolos de “tempos que não voltam mais”, os Catraieiros testemunham que a história não consiste apenas do passado, mas se situa e se escreve no presente.
Swimming against the flow, the typical Brasilien boat Catraia is one of the oldest transportation between the capital of Vitória and the city of Vila Velha. In the midst of ‘car culture’, it is surprising that there are people who prefer cross by boat. Symbols of “old times” the Catraieiros testify that history does not consist only of the past, but it is situated and written in the present.
